Kenny Baker hired as Mercer football's defensive line coach

Mercer University head football coach Bobby Lamb announced the hiring of Kenny Baker as defensive line coach this week.
MACON, Ga. (MERCER ATHLETICS RELEASE) - Mercer University head football coach Bobby Lamb announced the hiring of Kenny Baker as defensive line coach this week. Baker replaces Justin Brown, who recently resigned from his position with the Mercer football program to take on a larger role with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

“I interviewed Kenny two years ago and was impressed with his knowledge of the game,” said Lamb. “He played an integral role in helping build Berry’s inaugural program and brings with him experience as a former leader on the defensive line at Gardner Webb.”

Baker comes to Mercer after spending the past season as the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Berry College during the Vikings’ inaugural campaign. He also helped guide true freshman linebacker Anthony Batey to Second Team All-Southern Athletic Association honors.

Prior to his time at Berry, he served as the defensive coordinator at Augusta’s Lakeside High School, after spending a season as a student assistant at his alma mater. He earned four varsity letters at Gardner Webb, where he was selected as a team captain and garnered the program’s defensive player of the year honors in 2007.

The Cartersville, Ga. native graduated from GWU with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education in 2009.
