MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 41 NBC ends our Holiday Miracles with a story of a single mother raising three sons and the youngest has special needs.
Most of the lights are off in Beverly Smith's home, but there is one light that shines bright. It's not the Christmas tree, but her youngest son's smile as he sees the presents from 41 NBC.
"It made a holiday miracle truly come true for us," Smith said.
It all started with a letter from Smith. Money is tight for this single mother of three. Her youngest son, Chris, was born with down syndrome. She quit her job to take care of him and now she's back in school. But she couldn't buy Christmas gifts for her boys this year and that's when 41 NBC stepped in.
"This gives us a chance to be happy on Christmas," she said. "I don't have to worry about waking up and can't provide. That's what was really hurting me."
But not any longer. 41 NBC brought her family bags of toys and boxes of food. Chris is a huge wrestling fan and loved all of his new heavy weight games and cloths. He even taught 41 NBC's Amanda Castro wrestler John Cena's signature catch phrase.
"You can't see me," Smith and Chris said.
But you can see the look of pure happiness and joy on Smith's face, now that her family will have a Christmas.
"It makes me feel so good inside to know that people still care. The horriblest things happen in this world, there's still people, like to the people at WMGT-TV that really, truly cares about the community," she said. "I'll never forget this moment. Never, never, never."
It's a moment, and a holiday miracle, we're so happy to be a part of.
