Historic Pleasant Hill church moves to Bloomfield community

Community Church of God congregation is moving from Grant Avenue to a "state of the art" sanctuary on Bethesda Street.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A historic church in Macon will soon move to a brand new, “state of the art” building.

Members of Community Church of God say they have mixed emotions about relocating.

The church is more than 116 years old. Generations of families have attended the church over the years. Some members have been worshiping at the church for 70 and 80 years.

The church is located at 283 Grant Ave., and seats 350 people. The new sanctuary seats 910, and is located at 5555 Bethesda St.

The church's pastor, Jason McClendon says they are scheduled to move, August 3rd.

“We're looking for the community to recognize that we are here for them and we're looking forward to worshiping together and also having some outstanding children's ministries," says mcclendon.

The pastor says he hopes having a larger church will encourage more people to join their worship service.

The historic church building will remain in the Pleasant Hill community.

He plans to lease it to other church leaders in the community, who might want a new sanctuary.
