Georgia grocery chain adds store in Milledgeville

Food Depot plans to set up shop in Milledgeville.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Georgia grocery store chain plans to open another location in Milledgeville.

Food Depot bought out the old Winn-Dixie building on 1810 North Columbia Street, and will  open its door by July 4.

According to Milledgeville Mayor Richard Bentley, the store will bring more than 100 jobs to the community.

The facility is currently under reconstruction by Food Depot contractors, and for the past month, crews have demolished the interior and are now waiting for city permits to continue construction.

Bentley anticipates the new addition to the community. He adds the recent improvements to the downtown area, the nearby college campuses and Central State Hospital make Milledgeville stand out to investors and potential companies.

"Plus, the growth that may be anticipated  with Milledgeville with some of the things that we're doing,” Bentley says, “We certainly hope that the things that we've done over the last five or six years are attractive to anybody."
