MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GC ATHLETICS RELEASE) – The Georgia College women’s basketball team and head coach Maurice Smith are pleased to announce the addition of Kadesha Gibbs to the 2014-15 squad.

A graduate of Newton-Conover High School, Gibbs comes to Georgia College after a stint playing at Catawba Valley Community College. She plans to major in psychology.

“Kadesha is the perfect fit for our program as a person and basketball player,” said Smith. “We feel that she will be a successful student athlete in the classroom and on the basketball court. On the court she will give us a much needed post-presence inside. She has a tremendous work ethic and consistently plays with great effort. She has the ability to score inside and out which will make her a very effective player in our league. We are excited about the addition of Kadesha and all the positive qualities that she will add to our program.”

During her time at Catawba Gibbs was a vital part of the team, averaging 17.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per contest. She received honors such as NJCAA Division II First Team All-American, NJCAA Division II Region X Player of the Year, NJCAA Division II Region X All-Region Team, and NJCAA Division II Region X All-Academic Team.

In 2010 and 2011, under coach Ike Williams, Gibbs helped lead her high school team to back-to-back CVAC Conference Championships, CVAC Tournament Championships, and Double-A Sectional Championships. She averaged 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.

The Bobcats went 18-11 in the 2013-14 season, advancing to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament title game by beating the East No. 1 and West No. 2 seed along the way. Rising seniors Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) and Enisha Donley (Loganville, Ga.) were each named to the All-PBC Teams.
