MACON, Georgia (FPD RELEASE) - The FPD softball program and head coach Jim Turner is pleased to announce that senior Caitlin Collins will sign a national letter of intent to play softball at Georgia Military College (GMC) on Thursday, Jan. 16 in the Middlebrooks Athletic Center at 9:50 a.m.
"Caitlin has really been a great player for us," Turner said. "She has been a four-year starter, won a lot of games as a pitcher, always been at the top in RBI's and she's always been willing to play any position we ask her to play."
Collins had a consistent senior campaign, hitting .310 while driving in 18 runs. In FPD's opening series win over Athens Christian, Collins posted a .500 batting average, going 3-for-6 at the plate with two doubles.
In the circle, Collins served as FPD's no. 2 starter. The righty saw action in five games this season and tossed a perfect game at Wilkinson County on Sept. 16. For the season, Collins finished with a record of 2-1 and racked up 18 strikeouts, respectively.
Collins will join former Lady Viking Claire Crawford (class of 2013) at GMC, who signed to play for the Lady Bulldogs last spring.
"GMC is a great program," Turner said. "It will be exciting to see Caitlin and Claire continue their success in Milledgeville."
The Lady Vikings are fresh off of a 23-10 season that saw them advance to the GHSA Class-A State Tournament in Columbus for the first time in school history, finishing third overall.
