FPD honors Jim Turner, retires No. 34

FPD baseball coach Jim Turner has led the Vikings for 25 years.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - He's been the head baseball coach at FPD for 25 years.

Jim Turner led the Vikings to state championships in 1992 and 2010, and after their win tonight over GMC Prep, his head coach record at the school stands at 347-192.  Now, he says he's ready to spend more time with his family, especially his granddaughters.  He announced earlier this year he's stepping down.

Jim Turner was honored at Thursday's "Jim Turner Appreciation Night" in a pre-game ceremony.

Former Vikings John Rocker (1993) and Michael Bridges (2006) were on hand for an emotional ceremony that included the retiring of Turner's No. 34 jersey.

Turner will stay on as a faculty member and head softball coach.
