Forsyth welcomes jobs, Tractor Supply to town

Forsyth is enjoying a new opportunity for growth--the kind it hasn't seen in awhile.
FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Forsyth is enjoying a new opportunity for growth--the kind it hasn't seen in awhile.

Store employees are busy working at Tractor Supply, and the public is excited about the new opportunity it's bringing to town.

"My wife says they have something for everybody," said Forsyth Mayor John Howard.

Whether you need a lawn mower, a tiller, or in Forsyth's case--some jobs.

"Well, yeah, I'm excited about it," said Forsyth resident David Lowery.

"It's a good day for jobs, it's a good day for sales tax, and it's also a boost to our economy," said Mayor Howard.

And Tractor Supply provides.

"As far as the jobs and the revenue it brings into the city, I'm all for it," said Lowery.

"One of the things we need more in Forsyth is jobs," said Forsyth resident Dana Lynch. "We're always looking for the growth and development that we need here."

"It's really convenient for a lot of people now, where they had to go to Walmart or Macon or Rumble Road to the Walmart down there...now they can stop here," said prospective shopper Eugene Wallace.

The store will employ anywhere between 10 and 15 people.

Otis Ingram spearheaded the effort to bring the store to town.

"We were able to recruit Tractor Supply and they were interested in coming here because of the demographics of Monroe County with a lot of horse people and cattleman and a lot of people that own ranches and small farms," said Ingram. "So it was really just a good fit."

Mayor Howard hopes it's the start of something bigger.

"I'm just happy to see a new business in town and I hope that it will bring--create a spark for something else to come," said Mayor Howard.

And he believes it very well could be a milestone for Forsyth.

"If I have to think about it since Walmart--the original Walmart, not the Super Walmart--because I think the original Walmart came in the 80's," said John Howard. "I don't remember exactly when, but I don't think we've had a major franchise business--something name brand--since that time."

The store's soft opening will be Saturday.

You'll be able to buy what you need as well.

The grand opening is June 21st.
