FBI: Tsarnaev's friend agreed to toss evidence

An FBI agent says a friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev agreed with another friend to get rid of a backpack containing fireworks found in Tsarnaev's dorm room.

BOSTON (AP) — An FBI agent says a friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev agreed with another friend to get rid of a backpack containing fireworks found in Tsarnaev's dorm room.

The agent testified Tuesday that Azamat Tazhayakov initially denied knowing what was in Tsarnaev's backpack found in the UMass-Dartmouth dorm room, but eventually said he saw fireworks that appeared to have been emptied of powder. The agent said Tazhayakov told her he agreed when his friend Dias Kadyrbayev, who said they should throw away the backpack.

Tazhayakov is charged with obstruction of justice and conspiracy. Kadyrbayev faces a separate trial.

During cross-examination by Tazhayakov's lawyer, the agent acknowledged that Tazhayakov told her that Kadyrbayev actually took the backpack and threw it away.

Tsarnaev is awaiting trial in the bombing.
