Downtown Macon mural hopes to provide positive message

It's something you can see hanging all the way from I-16. "Welcome to Macon, where the south rocks!" greets anyone heading down MLK Boulevard in downtown Macon.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - It's something you can see hanging all the way from I-16.

"Welcome to Macon, where the south rocks!" greets anyone heading down MLK Boulevard in downtown Macon.

It's a six story mural that hangs on the side of the Sierra Development group building on the 400 block of Cherry street.

It features a guitar running down the center, with a snapshot of a band playing on stage.

The Mercer Bears also show off their logo near the bottom as well.

Designer Steve Mosley says his favorite part of the design is the ode to southern rock.

"We wanted the visitors who would see it, the visitors to make it who would see it to have something positive, something memorable, but also for the Macon community to have hopefully something they'd be proud of," said Mosley.

Mosley says the mural came at a great time as well.

He says Mercer's recent success in the NCAA tournament as well as the Cherry Blossom Festival make the mural's message even better.
