MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - In the search to find those who are making a difference in their community, someone suggested looking into the 'Mother's Morning Out' daycare program at Ingleside Baptist Church.
So I did.
When you look at Ingleside from the outside, it seems to be just like any other place of worship. But show up on a weekday around 9:00a.m., there is a lot going on. Car after car is pulling up, with kids bouncing out for another day of daycare.
"It isn't just play, they're actually learning basic skills, school skills...basic social skills," Ginny Fillingrim explains. Fillingrim is the preschool minister at Ingleside Baptist Church.
Before you think, 'this is just another daycare, what's so great about it?' Ask the mothers who are dropping their kids off, what makes the place so special to them.
"The teachers really care about the children. And they teach them about the Bible at an early age," mom of two, Aimee Hall says.
"I think just how much they've just adored my children over the past four years," mom Carolyn Stuart says.
Bethany Slocum says her 'soon-to-be two year-old', is already saying her ABC's.
The program is dedicated specifically towards helping moms. That's why Ingleside decided to call it the 'Mother's Morning Out' program. They noticed moms needed some time away from kids every once in a while. Now, the daycare, has turned into a full scale teaching program.
"It helps them (the kids) learn how to be in a group," Fillingrim says. "They have group times, they begin learning letters, numbers, and colors."
And it's also giving moms the chance to get caught up with the rest of life.
Hall, Stuart, Slocum, and many other mothers dropping their kids off, all agreed this helps them by giving them time to run errands around town, or the house.
Sometimes, it's the little things in life that help you catch your breath.
The Mother's Morning Out Daycare runs through the summer. Call Ginny Fillingrim at Ingleside Baptist Church at 478-477-0600 for more information.
