Darqueze Dennard picked 24th overall by Cincinnati Bengals

Former Twiggs County High School football star Darqueze Dennard is going to Cincinnati.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Right up until the last regular season game of his high school football career at Twiggs County, Darqueze Dennard believed his football career would soon be over.

More than four years later, he's heading to the NFL.

He waited much longer than many thought he would Thursday night to hear his name called.  He gathered with family and friends at a Macon hotel to watch the draft, and you could hear a pin drop every time a pick was announced.

Finally, after almost three hours, he was picked 24th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Many thought he may go tenth to Detroit, since the Lions needed a defensive back.  If that had been the case, he wouldn't be far from where he went to college.  Dennard played for Michigan State and closed out his career by winning the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the best defensive back in America.
