Cyclist injured crashing into car

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says witnesses told investigators Billy Stafford was weaving in and out of traffic before the accident.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - A man is in critical condition after he was hit while riding his bicycle Thursday morning in Macon.

The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Eisenhower Parkway and Macon Tech Drive.

Witnesses told Bibb County Sheriff's investigators the cyclist, 63-year-old Billy Stafford, was weaving in and out of cars stopped at a red light on Eisenhower Parkway.

Stafford was traveling east on Eisenhower when he collided with 60-year-old Shirley Jacobs' car.

"As traffic flowed making a left hand turn onto Macon Tech Drive, Mr. Stafford went through the intersection on a bicycle and hit the passenger side fender of a 2000  Buick Century," said Bibb County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Lt. Sean Defoe.

Defoe says Jacobs was not charged in the accident.

He added cyclists should adhere to the same laws as drivers when approaching a traffic signal.
