Covenant Academy hoping for a bright 2014 under new lights

Bill Shanks talks to the head football coach of Covenant Academy, Chris Oxford.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - It will be a different sort of season for the Covenant Rams in 2014.  Along with a new set of stadium lights for their home field, they'll also have a brand new head coach. Chris Oxford, formerly of Central Fellowship, thinks this program is ready for big things.

"We've had several good players come out," Oxford said on 41NBC's Coaches' Corner. "We got 35 players coming out this year, and it's the most they've ever had in the school history."

Oxford will be a new coach with a new quarterback.  Last year's starter graduated in the spring.  There won't be a lack of choices for the open spot. The Rams are auditioning two freshmen, a junior and a senior. Regardless of who takes over, the team will be able to back him up with seven returning offensive starters, including fullback Christian Tate.

There will also be seven players returning on defense.  Oxford is hoping to turn the defensive line into of the team's main strengths.

The Rams will play their first home game under the lights on August 29 against Crisp Academy.
