MACON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) - The Bibb County Sheriff's Office plans to buy a new breath alcohol testing machine, all thanks to a grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Intoxilyer 5000 was the sole approved instrument in the state of Georgia, for analysis of alcohol in breath since 1995. The Intoxilyer 9000 attained the highest score in both laboratory and administrative evaluations as it was tested against other breath alcohol machines, by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Division of Forensic Sciences.
The Intoxilyer 9000 has been selected by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to the successor of the Intoxilyer 5000. The grant is worth 8-thousand dollars. The Sheriff's office says the new breathalyzer will help deputies meet future testing requirements in the peach state.
