Beer brewers prepare for Macon Beerfest

The 4th Annual Macon Beerfest is back Saturday, and organizers are excited to help Pints For Prostate.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Preparation for 4th annual Macon Beerfest is underway.

You can enjoy some beer while hanging out downtown.

For Brian Whitley, cracking open a cold one is pretty sweet.

But helping tap into the community to help victims of prostate cancer--that's pretty refreshing as well.

Beerfest is only hours away--and Whitley hopes it will be a big hit in downtown Macon Saturday.

"This year we've got 12 venues and 27 beers, you know, what a great way to spend a day."

And some money as well--it all goes to the organization Pints For Prostate.

"Some of the statistics I've been told is that 30,000 men a year die from prostate cancer--that's a significant number," said Whitley. "One in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer."

Not to mention opening up downtown Macon, which should help businesses.

"There's a lot of people walking around," said co-owner of Macon Beer Company Jeremy Knowles. "They get to see places maybe they've never seen before, maybe visit somewhere maybe they'd like to go out to eat later. I think it's important to showcase what Macon has."

The company will feature a couple of different craft beers for the festival.

"It's just a great opportunity to reach out the community, build on the awareness of craft beer here in Middle Georgia," said Knowles.

And build up support for prostate cancer.

"If it's anything like the last two I've been involved in, it's going to be hard to get to all 27 beers because we're going to be hanging out, having fun--hot as heck but it's a really neat event," said Whitley.

Whitley adds downtown grill will be pouring beer for festival goers.
Owner Richie Jones is excited to be involved.

The festival is going on from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of Cherry Street and Third Street Park.

Tickets are 25 dollars the day of the event.
