Baby drowns in Baldwin County family pool

Authorities say it is not clear if the two -year-old stumbled or jumped into the swimming pool.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A two-year-old drowned, in her family's swimming pool, Friday.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m., at a home in the 100 block of Bookins Circle near Sparta Highway, according to Baldwin County Sheriff's Capt. Brad King.

“It appears to be a very tragic accident,” he said.

It is unclear if the toddler jumped in the pool or stumbled into the pool, said King. “The pool's deck was accessible for child her age. In other words, it wasn't too tall for her to get in there by herself.”

Family members were trying to revive the toddler, when paramedics arrived at the home, he added.

The child was transported to Oconee Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

“We encourage everybody to be diligent in the supervision of children near pools and lakes, especially if you know they enjoy the water,” said the captain. “ It only takes seconds for something like this to happen.”
