MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - With help from actress Pam Greir, six abandoned puppies found behind the Waffle House on Gray Highway will head to new homes.

Grier contacted the Pilots N Paws non-profit organization after her friend Valerie Young discovered on Facebook the puppies were in danger from rescue volunteer Cherie Bland.

Within 24 hours, the puppies an independent pilot picked up the pups from the Herbert Smart airport taking them to Blackshear, Georgia where caretakers will provide temporary shelter.

Grier says it's a cause close to her heart.

"And because an animal saved me, I wanted to make sure that I pass that out into the universe and teach our children to take care of animals, because they will take care of us."

According to Young, the puppies will complete a two-week quarantine process. After, rescue workers at the Delco SPCA adoption center in Pennsylvania will care for all six puppies until they find new homes.
