90,000 books on sale at Old Book Sale in Perry

Thousands of cheap books are waiting to be read down in Perry, and if you buy a couple, you're helping others get a good book to read too.
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Thousands of cheap books are waiting to be read down in Perry, and if you buy a couple, you're helping others get a good book to read too.

41NBC's Sean Franklin visited Houston County's Old Book Sale, and learned how the sale is helping spread good literature across the county.

"We have probably 88 to 90 thousand books," said volunteer for Houston County Friends of the Library Georgette Lipford.

There are books on books on books...

"Got a lot of civil war books, got genealogy books..."

"If you're looking for books at a bargain price, this is definitely the place," said Lipford.

And normally, this place--the Georgia National Fairgrounds, doesn't have thousands of books packed inside.

But starting Thursday, if you love to read, you might want to stop by.

"We've got a wonderful venue here, we've got wide aisles, easy shelving, moving around between the tables," said Lipford.

The Houston County Friends of the Library hosts the Old Perry Book Sale each year.

Wednesday afternoon, Lipford and her other volunteers were ahead of schedule setting up.

"Knowing we're giving back to the community when we give that money to the libraries," said Lipford.

Most of the books cost between 50 cents and two dollars, and the money goes back to Houston County libraries.

"It's used by them to purchase books or audio books or help pay for things like children's summer reading programs for kids. Anything they think they need to spend the money on," said Lipford.

So fiction or non-fiction, different languages, hard back or soft back--this is your place.

The sale will go on until Saturday--where all of the books will be half off.

If you want to get in early Thursday, it's $5--but that gives you the best selection.

Hours are 10 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 9 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.  You can find it at the Georgia Grown Building at the Georgia National Fairgrounds.
