350 jobs expected for Milledgeville

Officials have two projects at Central State Hospital Campus that will create approximately 350 jobs.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - 16 acres of Central State Hospital Campus will be given to Milledgeville for a new building.

The building will be a healthcare center for people in prison, who are eligible for parole, but haven't received it because of their physical or mental health, according to Milledgeville Mayor, Richard Bentley.

The healthcare center will create approximately 225 jobs and value more than $20 million. CorrectHealth will construct this new facility. It will house 280 people.

Another 125 jobs are coming from a new project Governor Nathan Deal announced today.

"We have applied to the United States Department of Defense for a third Georgia National Guard Youth Challenge Academy... right here in Milledgeville," said Governor Deal.

Mayor Bentley said about 700 people are currently in the state prison system that will need to utilize the new healthcare center. Once the building is up and running, there will be more beds available for new inmates.
