2013 'Braves Band of the Year' to represent Macon again April 12 at Turner Field

Back City Woods will play at Turner Field before the Braves game on April 12.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - An enthusiastic performance last season at Turner Field earned a middle Georgia band the title of 2013 Braves Band of the Year.

Back City Woods, a group out of Macon, will kick off the 2014 Braves Band of the Year competition on Saturday, April 12 with another Turner Field performance before the Braves take on the Washington Nationals.

For winning 2013 Braves Band of the Year, the group also gets a free suite for the game.

The Braves Band of the Year competition features a different band each home weekend.  The Braves entertainment staff chooses the band of the year at the end of the season based on multiple factors, including crowd participation and enthusiasm.

For fans who can't make it to Atlanta on April 12, the band will host a celebration party Friday, April 4 at the Hummingbird Stage and Taproom in downtown Macon.  They'll play for a few hours there starting at 10 p.m and will have new Braves/Back City Woods themed t-shirts on sale.

Back City Woods mixes a little bit of all types of music to form a unique sound that doesn't really fall into a particular genre, according to front man Dan NeSmith.  He says at last year's Turner Field performance, the band played mostly their own music but also mixed in some cover songs.  He expects the April 12 performance to be similar.

NeSmith and drummer James Lengel stopped by the 41NBC studios Wednesday.  Check out their music and merchandise at backcitywoods.com.
