KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) - The Atlanta Braves decided to stand pat after blowing it last September. Now, they're eager to prove that was the right call.
When pitchers and catchers hold their first workout Monday, the Braves will send out largely the same group that played so well for most of the season - then squandered a commanding playoff lead over
the final month. The collapse was particularly hard to take when St. Louis claimed an improbable World Series championship after passing Atlanta on the last day.
Reliever Eric O'Flaherty admits it was tough watching the Cardinals celebrate, but says it's given the Braves extra motivation. Most of the top players are already at the Braves' Disney World camp, even though the first full-squad workout won't be held until next weekend.
