AMERICUS, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – It took extra innings, but the No. 26 Georgia College baseball team (12-4, 5-2 PBC) got past Georgia Southwestern State University 8-6 Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Hurricanes led 6-5 going into the ninth, where the Bobcats manufactured a run using a walk, single and a fielder's choice. After GSW went 1-2-3 in the ninth, the Bobcats took the lead in the top of the tenth, as second baseman Brandon Benson (Loganville, Ga.) doubled home Mike McGraw (Newnan, Ga.) who led with a single. Three batters later, first baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) supplied an insurance run by plating Benson on a single.
Reliever Jordan Modine (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) threw four scoreless innings to get the win (2-0), scattering two hits and a walk with a strikeout. Zach Smith (0-1) took the loss for the Hurricanes.
Benson finished 2-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in just the one while owning a double and triple. Ardeeser had a weekend in a day with a 5-for-6 effort, driving in two and scoring another.
Shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) was 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and an RBI, while leftfielder Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) drove in three with two hits and a run from the leadoff spot. McGraw was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 9 at 1 p.m., finishing the series at GSW in doubleheader action.
