FLOWERY BRANCH, GA - Corey Peters' knee injury means more reps in practice for Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Peria Jerry.
Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith said Monday that Peters will not participate this week when the Falcons practice this week in Jacksonville and play the Jaguars in a preseason game on Friday.
Peters was injured in practice Sunday and had to be carted off the field, but the team doesn't believe the knee was structurally damaged.
Peters started 16 of Atlanta's 17 games last year, but Jerry, the NFL's 24th overall draft pick two years ago, could be poised to take the job and hold it.
Jerry played as a reserve last year with two sacks, nine tackles and one pass defended in 17 games, but Smith loves his "explosiveness" after the snap.
