On a dusty ballfield in Jones County, a group of girls is doing someone no one else in their area has ever done before.
"No other softball team from this side of Jones County has ever gotten to do it before," says Jenna Blount. She's the head coach of the Southern Sluggers and she told me her team is ready for this tournament.
With a stacked a bullpen, and a hard hitting line-up, the Southern Sluggers are going to the U-Triple-S-A World Series in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
"It's something that these girls have not gotten to do and some of them -- they won't get the chance to do it again," says coach, Holland Gurnee
So what makes this year different? How'd they do it?
"Work hard and team work," exclaims Miranda "Oobie" Moore. Her other teammates chimed in...
"Team effort and team work," says Alexia Myers.
"We had to do teamwork and get through all of this hardwork," says Taylor Kohlmayer.
Showing up to multiple practices each week, fundraising, and working together -- so that they can bring a title home...
When I asked Coach Blount if winning was a possibility she replied with:
"I hope so."
"We're good and we're going to be the best," says Maegan Hayes, another Southern Slugger.
But before they can win it all, Coach Holland Gurnee tells me they've got to work on one thing in particular...
"It's catching.," he says. "They've got a little bit to learn as far as catching balls..."
But with all of the shoestring catches and pop flies I saw during practice...
A World Series Championship could become a reality very soon...
"It's really big and it's going to be really fun," says Miranda.
Heavy hitter Lacey Brookins told me that "It means a lot. This is once in a lifetime for not just me but for everybody here."
"We play good and we're all a good team and we'll help each other get there and if they need help, we'll help 'em," says Slugger, Ashlyn Dukes.
And you can bet they'll have all of Middle Georgia cheering them on.
