AUBURN, AL - Auburn coach Gene Chizik says he only spoke to one candidate for defensive coordinator, and that was Brian VanGorder.
VanGorder arrived on campus Wednesday morning and was introduced at a news conference before taking over his new job. Auburn has not released details of his deal.
VanGorder spent the past four years as defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. He says Auburn drew his interest because "this is an elite job. This is an incredible place."
Chizik replaced him as Central Florida's coordinator in 1998, but the two haven't worked together. VanGorder won the Frank Broyles Award given to the nation's top assistant coach in 2003, Chizik in 2004.
Chizik is still seeking a replacement for offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. He says he has spoken to "a handful" of candidates.
