INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Wade Cunningham will attempt to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 in a car fielded by A.J. Foyt.
Cunningham ran three IndyCar races last season, but not the 500. The 27-year-old from New Zealand will be a rookie at Indianapolis and will participate in the May 10 orientation program Cunningham knows his way around Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
He's won the Indy Lights race three times, and has five podium finishes in six career starts.
Cunningham will be a teammate at Indy to Mike Conway, who drives full-time for Foyt in IndyCar. Foyt has two Honda engines for the 500, and will try to get Cunningham into the field in the No. 41
Cunningham will get his first drive in the new IndyCar in the May 7 test at Texas.
