PERRY, GA - Unadilla native David Ragan considers Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton his home race track. So when NASCAR Cup Series visits this weekend, the 25-year-old driver will be right at home.
"It's always special to go back there and a win would be great, plus my sponsor UPS is right down the road so we'll have lots of fans and employees there cheering for us," Ragan said.
The Atlanta race week also gives Ragan the chance to visit his family in the Middle Georgia area and check in on his car dealership in Perry. He'll be signing autographs at David Ragan Ford on Wednesday from 2 to 4 PM. He'll then head over to Oglethorpe Speedway in Pooler, Georgia to sign more autographs and compete in a match race.
The week continues for Ragan with racing at AMS where crew chief Drew Blickesnderfer likes the UPS team's chances. "We've run well at mile-and-a-half tracks this season so I'm looking forward to Atlanta this weekend, plus we're taking the same car that was strong at Texas, Charlotte and Kentucky. I'm looking forward to getting a win these last two weeks so that we can get ourselves into the Chase."
Ragan, who won earlier this summer in Daytona, likes racing in front the hometown fans, "Atlanta is a multiple groove race track, and the tires wear out fast, so tire management is important and just adds extra factors which make it fun to race there."
