Unadilla's David Ragan captured his first career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole this afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway.
Ragan drove his #6 UPS sponsored Ford around the 1.5-mile oval with a lap speed of 189.820 miles per hour.
This is his first pole in 153 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. He won a Nationwide Series pole at Texas Motor Speedway in 2007.
Ragan, who was also the fastest in Thursday's practice session, was 1.3 miles per hour faster than his Roush-Fenway Racing teammate, Carl Edwards, who will start on the outside pole.
Ragan sits 18th in points but has been fast all season and was in position to win the Daytona 500 in February until he was penalized by NASCAR on a late race restart.
He is the son of former NASCAR driver, Ken Ragan.
