JEFFERSON, GA - With threats of bad weather, Gresham Motorsports Park was forced to rearrange the schedule of the Racing Radios 125 Presented by Schoenfeld Headers. The Southern Super Series Late Models raced before the local divisions, but all divisions were able to complete their race event before the rain moved in.
The local divisions ran for more than trophies and the usual purse. Schoenfeld Headers gave certificates to those who won and partnership with Peach State Freightliner and Ford Power Stroke Diesel increased the purse for the Outlaw Late Models.
Mini Stocks kicked off the first local division race events. Spanky Hicks started the race with Avery Burgess, Allen Cantrell and Erik Czechowski following behind him. A caution was called after Czechowski spun out on lap four. Hicks jumped to the start and led the field until Burgess worked his way into th lead position. Burgess took the checkered flag and Hicks, Cantrell and Czechowski rounded out the field.
Bryan Beckner started in the lead of the Sportsman/Renegade race, but quickly fell under a caution when Rob Hubbard spun on the front stretch. Jeff Chadwick and Beckner finished the fifteen lap race in the front and gained another win at GMP.
The Truck race was full of thrills and tempers and fans got a show. Matt Vassar started in the front with Matt Wortman and Emilee Riley behind him. Kevin Vasser moved to the front with Riley on his bumper until lap 12 when Vassar couldn't hold her back anymore and hit the wall on the front stretch. Vassar let Riley know that he was upset and Riley was sent to the back of the field for rough driving.
On the Restart, Matt Vassar took the lead in front of Ronnie Wehunt, Riley and Wortman. In Riley's pursuit of second place, she moved Ronnie Wehunt out of the way and caused him to spin into the inside wall going into turn one. Riley was given the black flag and Matt Vassar and Matt Wortman were able to finish the race with Vassar in the lead position.
The Peach State Freightliner Outlaw Late Models Presented by Ford Power Stroke Diesel were able to complete their race event just before the rain started to fall. The green flag dropped with David Wragg leading and Hoyt Stephens and Russell Shore behind him. Brian Hardman worked his way to the front of the field by lap five with Jason Bates behind him in second place. Hardman tried to hold Bates back, but Bates took the lead on lap 12. Bates stays in the lead for the remainder of the race and won the first sponsored Peach State Freightliner Outlaw Late Models Presented by Ford Power Stroke Diesel race event. Hardman, Stephens, Wragg and David Murphy rounded out the top five.
