SNELLVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A high school football coach at the center of an investigation into recruiting at his school has resigned.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that Shiloh High School coach Brian Montgomery submitted his resignation Thursday. The coach told the newspaper that he did nothing wrong, and resigned to avoid action on his contract becoming part of his permanent record.
Gwinnett County school officials have recommended that his contract not be renewed.
School system spokeswoman Sloan Roach says that in late March, the Georgia High School Association contacted Shiloh High School regarding alleged recruitment violations. The school system then began investigating recruitment practices at the school. At issue is whether players from his former school were asked to follow him to Shiloh. Montgomery says he never asked them to.
