FLOWERY BRANCH, GA - Coach Mike Smith says the Atlanta Falcons don't have long to correct their mistakes.
With Philadelphia (1-0) and former Falcons quarterback Michael Vick visiting the Georgia Dome in six days, Smith believes Atlanta (0-1) must return to the fundamental style of play that led to a 13-3 record last season.
In a 30-12 season-opening loss at Chicago, the Atlanta defense missed tackles and assignments that led to six plays of 23 or more yards.
Quarterback Matt Ryan, who was sacked five times and hit six others, combined with running back Michael Turner for three turnovers. The offense, despite 386 net yards, went 0 for 2 in red-zone chances and converted only four of 13 third-down opportunities.
Smith described the team's mood on Monday as "disappointed but not discouraged."
