MINNEAPOLIS - The man in the middle of the bitter labor dispute between NFL owners and players likes to go to the ice to get his kicks away from the courtroom.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Arthur J. Boylan is an avid curling fan. He can be found at one of two St. Paul curling clubs three nights a week.
Those who know him say it's the social nature of curling that appeals to Boylan. Curling is also a game of patience and precision, and those attributes are likely coming in handy right now.
Boylan is serving as the mediator in the negotiations between the league and its players. Those who know him well say he has the temperament and perseverance to stick through the long hours and help broker a deal.
