MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College women's soccer team (7-6-2, 4-3-2 PBC) tied Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opponent the University of Montevallo (2-7-4, 2-5-2 PBC) after double overtime 2-2, Saturday at Bobcat Field.
The Bobcats were able to strike quickly 12:21 into the game, with Liz Franco's (Alpharetta, Ga.) second goal of the season and coming from Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.). Dalton's cross found Franco on the left side for the 1-0 lead early. Dalton's 17th career assist snaps the Georgia College all-time mark, owned by 10th Anniversary Team member Jamie Nevin.
The Falcons were able to answer just 1:21 minutes after Franco's goal, when Michaela Graber notched her fourth of the season. As the half came to an end, the Bobcats got some help from Montevallo as a cross ricocheted off a Falcon defender in the 42nd minute for a 2-1 Georgia College lead at halftime.
Scoring the lone goal of the second period was Julie Heltne, her first of the season tying the game up at 2-2 with 41:58 left in the half. The overtime periods would prove fruitless, ending in the draw.
In goal for Montevallo was Taylor Kerr, playing all 110 minutes for the Falcons adding nine saves for the afternoon.
Georgia College outshot Montevallo 22-11 for the match, with half of the Bobcat shots on goal.
Splitting duties in goal for the Bobcats was Jessica Catapano (Alpharetta, Ga.) in the first half and Annie Stephens (Fayetteville, Ga.) finished the game for Georgia College. Catapano added two saves in 45 minutes of play, while Stephens had two in 65 minutes.
The draw gives the Bobcats a point in the PBC standings, making it 14 on the year, good for sixth. The top eight teams make the PBC Championship with the top four hosting a first round matchup.
Georgia College women's soccer team will be on the road the remainder of the season. GC soccer's next contest comes at Georgia Southwestern State University starting at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30.
