MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Middle Georgia State College has a new tennis coach!
Tom Bates will leave Wesleyan College in Macon, where he's served as head coach the last two years, to coach both the men and women teams at MGSC. Both programs were added for the 2013-14 season.
Bates is a PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) certified teaching professional who's been coaching in the middle Georgia area for the last eight years. He coaches tennis players at both Idle Hour Country Club and has also worked at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center and Tattnall Tennis Center.
"Our players will be true student-athletes, working hard on the court and towards a great degree from MGSC," Bates said in a release from MGSC. "I look forward to being a part of this program from day one and helping our young men and women pursue their life's goals during their time at MGSC."
The Knights will begin play with two tournaments this fall before their season kicks off in February.
MGSC competes in Region 17 of the NJCAA and is a member of the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) which includes three other men's and women's tennis teams in the conference.
