MONTEVALLO, Alabama (GCSU) - The Georgia College men's basketball team (8-12, 4-9 PBC) dropped a road contest Thursday night at the University of Montevallo (15-6, 11-3 PBC) by a 69-49 score.
The stingy Falcon defense surrendered just one double-digit scorer on the night, as senior Scott Ferguson (Roswell, Ga.) tallied 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting.
The Falcons controlled things from the start, jumping out to a 14-2 lead by the 14:17 mark. Montevallo led 40-27 at halftime. Georgia College never managed to get the game back into a single-digit deficit in the second half, getting as close as 59-47 on a Ferguson three with 5:27 remaining.
The Bobcats were out-shot 43 percent (24-56) to 33 percent (17-52) with the Falcons controlling the boards 46-26.
Montevallo put four scorers in double-digits, led by Silas Mills with 13 points. Troran Brown and Travis DeShazior each had 12, while Jonas Brown added 11 points. Mills nabbed 15 rebounds for his first career double-double, all in reserve action.
The loss puts Georgia College at 4-9 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, positioned seventh in the PBC West Division; the top four advance to the PBC Tournament in March. The Bobcats are still just one game out of fourth place in the loss column.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m., traveling to Georgia Southwestern State University (10-11, 6-8 PBC). The Hurricanes most recently beat Columbus State University 96-66 Thursday night.
