MACON, Ga. (MERCER ATHLETICS) - After leading Mercer to its seventh-straight win after its most recent 77-67 triumph at Northern Kentucky, sophomore guard Precious Bridges was rewarded with her third-straight Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week award on Tuesday afternoon.
This is Bridges fourth career A-Sun Player of the Week award and fourth of the 2012-13 campaign, after capturing the honor on December 11, January 15 and January 22.
Bridges is the first player in the league to win three-straight A-Sun Player of the Week honors since Belmont's Haley Nelson won three in a row in January of 2012.
Bridges had another sensational week for Mercer averaging 28.0 points per game, on 49 percent shooting from the field, to go along with 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
The West Palm Beach, Fla. native scored a career-high 36 points in the Bears 74-70 win over Lipscomb. Bridges 36 points are the most scored by any player in the Atlantic Sun Conference this season and the most scored by an A-Sun player in a single-game since then sophomore Briana Williams netted 39 at Kennesaw State on Feb. 12, 2012.
Bridges has now scored 20 or more points in six-straight contests and currently leads the A-Sun Conference with 18.4 points per game and 142 field goals made.
Bridges and the rest of the Bears are back in action when they return home on February 2 to take on in-state rival Kennesaw State. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Hawkins Arena.
