Georgia Alabama. Ask Delay In Immigration Law Hearing

ATLANTA - Georgia and Alabama are asking a federal appeals court to delay a scheduled hearing on court orders blocking parts of their state laws cracking down on illegal immigration.

The attorneys general of the two states said Thursday they want to wait for the U.S. Supreme Court decision on a similar challenge to Arizona's tough law targeting illegal immigration.

The Supreme Court said Monday it would review a federal appeals court ruling that blocked parts of the Arizona law.

Federal judges have blocked parts of both states' laws pending the outcome of legal challenges. Both states' laws have been challenged by activist groups and Alabama's law has also been challenged by the federal government.

South Carolina took similar action with regard to a challenge of its law Thursday.
