MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Police say the driver of a sports car and his passenger died in a crash after the car fled from police in Cobb County during a traffic stop. Cobb County police say a Marietta police officer pulled over the black Chevrolet Camaro just after 5 a.m. Wednesday. The driver initially stopped but sped away as the officer approached the car.
Police say the officer didn't pursue the car, which crashed into a ravine, flipping on its roof and ejecting both men from the car. The driver, 28-year-old Marquis Parker, and passenger, 31-year-old Fernando Edwards, both of Marietta, were pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they believe speed, alcohol and failure to use safety restraints were factors in the deaths, and they're trying to determine why the driver fled.
