MACON, Georgia. (AP) - Bibb County commissioners have decided to hire International City Builders of Warner Robins as the contractor to build a new animal shelter.
The commission approved the decision on Friday with a 3-2 vote.
In November 2012, voters approved a penny sales tax referendum that called for spending $3 million on the new animal shelter.
Bibb County Animal Welfare Director Sarah Tenon said she's excited that construction work will soon begin. She says that she believes the new shelter will meet the needs of the community.
Tenon said she hopes the new facility will open in late summer or early fall 2014.
