GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials say a woman drowned at Lake Lanier when she fell off a dock.
Department spokeswoman Melissa Cummings says 59-year-old Marines Rosa Dillon was pronounced dead at Northside Hospital Sunday evening.
Cummings says Dillon's husband told investigators his wife - who could not swim - fell from a dock while she was trying to grab a turtle from the water.
Cummings says Dillon's husband could not swim either and jumped into the lake to try saving his wife. Cummings says a neighbor heard them screaming and called 911.
The drowning was one of two deaths on Georgia lakes Sunday. Officials said a 52-year-old Dallas, Ga. man died at Allatoona Lake when he fell from his boat and was run over by the unmanned vessel.
