GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Police who surrounded a motel in Gainesville have taken a man into custody after they say he barricaded himself inside one of the rooms. Authorities say they were able to evacuate guests from the Motel 6 off U.S. Highway 129, and no injuries were reported. Police reported early Tuesday afternoon that they took the suspect into custody. Information on possible charges wasn't immediately available.
Gainesville police Cpl. Joe Britte tells The Times of Gainesville that shots were fired by the suspect, but no one was hit. According to police a bail bondsman had called them at 9:27 a.m. Tuesday to report that the suspect had guns inside the room. Officers arrived at the motel at 1585 Monroe Drive at 9:41 a.m. to find a man barricaded inside.
