SUWANEE, Georgia (AP) - Several state officials are set to visit pre-kindergarten students in Suwanee to encourage early childhood literacy.
Department of Early Care and Learning spokesman Reg Griffin says First Lady Sandra Deal, State Rep. Brooks Coleman and Department of Early Care and Learning Commissioner Bobby Cagle are scheduled to visit Discovery Point in Suwanee Friday. Griffin says the visit is part of "The Week of the Young Child," an event sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
In a statement, Deal says she hopes the visit encourages children to read to others and become young teachers themselves.
Coleman, a Duluth Republican, says it's important for adults to read with children so they'll develop a love an appreciation for the written language.
