HEPHZIBAH, Georgia (AP) - Sheriff's officials in eastern Georgia say a teen has died after a dirt bike accident in Hephzibah.
Richmond County Sheriff's officials say 15-year-old Nicholas Goodwin was riding a dirt bike Saturday evening when he hit a metal cable strung between two trees. Sources report the cable hit the front of Goodwin's bike and the teen was thrown from the bike when the cable hit him in the neck.
Authorities say the cable was in place to keep unauthorized vehicles off of private property.
The teen walked home after the accident and told his parents he was having trouble breathing.
He was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center in critical condition and died Sunday. Authorities say the teen suffered a crushed trachea and collapsed lungs in the accident.
