Heavy Rains Move Into Georgia, Bringing Flood Threat

ATLANTA (AP) - Heavy rains moving into Georgia are bringing new concerns about flooding. Forecasters say as much as 3.5 inches of rain could fall in parts of central and south Georgia. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch covering much of the state. The watch is to be in effect from 7 a.m. Monday through Tuesday evening. Forecasters reported minor flooding throughout middle Georgia and school districts announced delays and closures for Tuesday.

Some of the heaviest rainfall totals - up to 3.5 inches - were expected south of a line from Columbus to Macon and Swainsboro. Forecasters are expecting moderate to heavy rainfall overnight and severe thunderstorms in south Georgia early Tuesday morning.
