Savannah Animal Control Expecting Kennel Shortage

Written by Associated Press (90) on . Posted in State

SAVANNAH, Georgia (AP) - Animal Control officials in Savannah are seeking homes for stray dogs in advance of renovations that will temporarily close a portion of the agency's kennels.

The Department of Agriculture has ordered the Savannah-Chatham County Animal Control Division to make improvements in the concrete slabs under its dog kennels because the slabs contain seams that are hard to clean.

When work begins Feb. 25, the Animal Control center will have to close a third of its 116 kennels at a time for several weeks - giving it less room to house dogs.

Animal Control officers are distributing posters at veterinarians' offices and at local pet stores in hopes of boosting dog adoptions before the renovation work starts.
