Woman Arrested In Ga. Homeless Camp Fire
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Police say an arrest has been made in an arson that ravaged a homeless encampment beneath a bridge in downtown Athens.
It has been reported that police charged 43-year-old Carole Childers-Queen with two counts of arson and criminal damage to a business.
Police say the Tuesday night blaze destroyed mattresses, clothes and other belongings of a group of homeless people who camped out beneath the North Avenue bridge. Authorities say the fire also caused a gas line to leak and damaged the bridge.
Police say the woman - a camp resident - ignited a boot to start the fire after an argument with a man who also lived at the camp.
It was unclear Wednesday night if she had a lawyer.
