Police Shoot, Kill Man Northeast Of Atlanta
BUFORD, Ga. (AP) - Police outside Atlanta say officers shot and killed a man in the parking lot of an apartment complex after a stun gun didn't subdue him. Authorities say officers were called to the complex near downtown Buford around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday after reports of several people smoking marijuana.
Gwinnett police Cpl. Jake Smith said officers began frisking the men. Smith sources that one of the men pulled a handgun from his clothes and held it to his own head. Smith said that after the man didn't follow orders to drop the gun, one officer struck the man with a stun gun. Smith said that shortly after that, the man pointed his gun at the officers. Three officers opened fire, killing 20-year-old Jose Antonio Hernandez-Gonzalez of Buford.
