Chemical Spill Prompts Hotel Evacuation
MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Police in an Atlanta suburb say they're evacuating a hotel as thousands of pounds of a chemical are leaking from an overturned truck on a nearby street.
Marietta police spokesman David Baldwin said no injuries have been reported.
Baldwin said the truck overturned Monday afternoon in an area near Cobb Parkway and Industrial Park Drive in Marietta, just northwest of Atlanta.
Baldwin said nearly 50,000 pounds of Sodium Hydroxide, a liquid chemical, is leaking from the overturned truck. He said the Hometown Inn was being evacuated.
Police say Cobb Parkway was shut down from Bells Ferry Road to Allgood Road in both directions. Baldwin said the road closure is expected to last into Monday evening.
