Wreckage From Georgia Plane Crash Recovered

ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities have found the wreckage of a small plane that crashed in a marsh outside Savannah and are working to determine the cause of the incident.

A spokeswoman for the FAA told The Associated Press on Monday that the single-engine, 1968 Cessna 172 plane had been flying to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport from North Carolina on Sunday when it went missing.

Officials lost contact with the aircraft at 6:55 p.m. and one person was believed to be aboard.

WTOC reported Savannah-Chatham Metro Police, U.S. Coast Guard and state officials were involved in the search. The TV station reported the wreckage was found around 1 a.m.

The search was expected to resume after sunrise. The National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating.
